When Oliver left the hospital, his voltage was set at .75. He's been back toNYC for increases in .25 increments, now up to 1.5. I think it was about amonth ago where I definitely believed it was working. Before, it was maybe, yes, I don't know, could-be...
His Felbatol is down from 2400 to 1800 mg and Lamictal from 500 to 400 mg.This is all with a 15 year old who has growth spurts; he's gained an inch ortwo in height and about 4 lbs since the surgery. We're guessing (gave up longago counting) that he's dropped from 2-3 early morning tonic-clonics a week toabout 2-3 a month.
He's more clear-headed; better with large motor sports like baseball,frisbee...quicker to respond... He's had a few absense statuses for a dayfollowing several days after dropping the medicine. At that point, themedicine is raised, we go back to NYC, raise the voltage, return home todecrease the medicine...and start all over again. At least, that's been thepattern. We're not seeing academic gains but he's showing more interest inreading and his summer school work...
So, just wanted to give you an update. I think this is promising treatmentand I say this guardingly after living roller-coaster hopes and dispairs from12 years of severe and uncontrolled seizures. Jane
