VNS - What Steve Has To Say ...

Hello my name is Steve, i'm 29 years old and have had epilepsy ever since i was a baby.

I have partial onset, and absent seizures. I worked until age 25, then my seizures caused my employers to fire me, because i was having black-outs while at work.

I went in for a right temporal lobectomy, it did help decrease the amount of seizures per hour, that i was having, but the seizures were still coming from my left temporal lobe. My doctor suggested vns therapy, so i went with the doctor's advice and had the implant surgery in 2005.

It has now been 3 years with the implant and i have seen little change in the amount of seizures i have per day. I have more headaches and migraines, tooth pain, ringing in my left ear drum, and painful surges to my stomach at times, these are side affects that have gone away since the battery has depleted, or the wire lead has come off of the implant, i don't know which one, i'll find out next week when i see my doctor.

I do want the implant removed because i feel alot less stress since i cannot feel the implant firing.

It has been a month now that the implant's battery or wire lead has been pulled out of place, and my seizures are still the same as they were with the implant working like it's supposed to.

The other thing about vns therapy,is being able to afford all of the doctor visits, and surgery's to have the battery replaced, which can be anywhere from 1 to 15 years apart.
